Info on the Swine Flu

So far, 190 isn't closed. They have been calling homes of students lately reminding them about how you should stay home if you have symptoms.

These symptoms include:
- headache
- tiredness
- chills
- aching muscles
- limb or joint pain
- diarrhoea or upset stomach
- sore throat
- runny nose
- sneezing
- loss of appetite

If you have had any of these symptoms, please stay home and call the school. IF the school does not reply, call the DOE. Chances are, the more people who call in, the more chances the school will close.

Swine Flu DOE Page:
http://schools.nyc.gov/Home/Spotlight/swine.htm

So far, I know that a bunch of students from 822, some from 802, and more students throughout the school are getting these symptoms. I've been following this issue since Friday and I feel that more information should be posted about this.

Reminders:
Hand sanitizer cannot fully kill all the germs. It's not bad to use it, I still advise you use it, but washing your hands will be more helpful. Please cover your mouth when you cough and sneeze. DO NOT share any food/beverages with others, sick or not sick.

Six Flags Trip is CANCELED!

This trip is cancelled. The reason to the cancellation is because:
A. Not enough people
B. Heavy Traffic (afterall it was going to be on MEMORIAL DAY!)
C. Leadership problems
D. Organizing Issues

It started to get pretty annoying when it came to planning this whole thing. It wasn't cancelled due to compettion with other trips. In fact, we are now working with the Senior Trip II with Caroline Chiu of Class 821.

I felt we needed to cancel this because we didn't have much of a strong leadership. If it was planned much earlier with more people, this trip would have succeeded.

Honestly, we were not trying to create competition. We had posted ideas about a trip a long time ago. It was originally about wanted to have fun too, but it seems to me that many others took it the wrong way. As a person I felt that WE as a CLASS should be doing things and thinking as a whole.

823Source is NOT DEAD! In fact, there will be other things coming up.

I will also be refunding the money if you already gave it in!

And I just noticed, this is our 100TH POST! Happy 100!!!!

The Most Asked Question

So the most frequently asked question about the Six Flags Trip is, "CAN I COME?!/CAN MY FRIEND COME?!"

I don't mind answering these questions, but it's so repetitive it's driving me crazy. YES YOU/YOUR FRIEND CAN COME! So if you want a friend to come, just tell them to ask me for extra slips.
And since I left the slips at home for 2 DAYS IN A ROW, I will EXTEND the due dates to May 4th! So that means, you have the vacation AND a few extra days (and 1 weekend) to think about it.

About the chaperones: The dates have NOT changed! If your parent wants to chaperone, please tell me by April 29th! After that date, I will not be accepting anymore chaperones. We have limited space!

The second most asked question is: What happens if it rains?
If it rains the trip will be cancelled/postponed. You can either get a full refund or get your ticket (Usable until October!) If the trip is cancelled and you still want to go as a group, we will issue out the new date.

Update on Class823Source Trip to Six Flags!!!

Since a lot of people do not know how to get to Port Authority, I will be leading a group of people there. If you do now know how to get there, please meet me in the Russell Sage school yard (where the benches are) on the day of the trip (May 25th). Please be there by 7:00 AM. I will not be waiting for ANYONE! I suggest you get there earlier than 7:00.

PLEASE BRING YOUR METROCARDS! AND EXTRA MONEY! We are not responsible if you loose ANYTHING!

Remember, this is for the people who do not have any idea how to get there! You can also look up the directions (which you SHOULD do). I can not have any delays.

Although the permission slips say 8:30, there will be possibility of the times changing (based on subway traffic). Why is it so early? It's because we want to get everyone in one place to sort out any problems and put people into buddy groups. There will be a chance of getting split up, so STAY TOGETHER!

We will continue to update as much as we can, so PLEASE check daily!

Have an idea of what you would like your restaurant to look like, so that you can give a description of it before you can present your menu to the class.
Preparation:
Visit a restuarant in your area and ask for copies of their menus.
Research different spanish foods from different countries.
Decide a name for your restaurant.
Create a paragraph describing the interior and exterior of your restaurant. You may want to include a reduce-size sketch of your restaurant to include in your menu.
Choose items that you will feature in your menu.
Come up with prices for all items on your menu.
Present your menu to the class.
Materials:
Construction Paper, Internet Access, Paper, and Markers

Band

Also if you are in band, dress up nicely and get to school at 6:30 PM. We will be performing at approximatly 7:00 PM. We aren't going to be sitting down and there probably won't be risers so find a position that is comfortable for you. Also make sure that you can see the conductor, Ms. Monroe. You only have to bring "Windemere". Don't bring the whole folder up to the stage. The whole performance is going to be about 5 minutes. Then we might stay their to have some snacks.

Class 823 Sponsored Trip!

We've actually been thinking of the class trip for a while now (proof in earlier post). See the ORIGINAL plan was a class picnic in either Juniper Valley or Central Park (but unfortunately, the"idea" has been disclosed). And I know some people will be claiming to be copying the 821vs822 3 day trip (yeah it's sorta true), and most people will be saying we're copying certain classmates "ideas" of the Manhattan Trip (we have proof in our archives.) And no, we're not saying we're being copied, these are actually peoples opinions.

If you don't believe us, click here: (it's not a prank)
http://class823source.blogspot.com/2009/03/just-idea.html

So we've been playing around with our ideas. We picked what seemed logical. Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. If we buy the tickets in bulk, we'll be able to save money. Unfortunately, the portion to the money will have to come out of you. But first we need to know how many people will be able to come or else the prices will be left unknown. So please tell us in advance, because first come, first serve. Please comment below if you'll be able to come.

The trip might be in May. I'm not exactly sure about the date, probably on Memorial Day.

Transportation: Port Authority Bus Terminal (we're taking a shuttle bus, bus rentals are expensive)

Some other information: http://www.sixflags.com/greatAdventure/groups/reunions.aspx
THE OFFICIAL PRICE IS $30! (with the admissions and transpiration)
The prices might change.

IMPORTANT! THE PRICES ARE NOW $50 EACH PERSON!

His site
Its basically his art work, and I have to say its amazing for a subsitute teacher. It has an inside and outside message. Simple and a bit complecated. And yes, I do appreciate art. But that's all I'm going to say, because you have to visit the site for yourself. Sure, the site is not fantastic, but the art speaks for itself.

Don't worry there's always another light! (Words of Encouragement)

I (CM) felt touched and emotional today when the class got their SHSAT scores back. I just felt like posting it. You don't have to read it, it's just something I wrote during free period. You may be inspired or bored to death. Either way, it might or might not help. I hope it encourages people to live up to their lives and learn to get up and keep on going. I hope I at least tried to inspire one person.

"I've realized there are more and other things in life other than grades and acedemics. I didn't get into the SHSAT school, any of them. I expected it. Instead of bawling because I didn't get in, cried for other things. Sure, my plans for the future are long gone, but I know there I have limits. I know what I could achieve, acomplish, renew.

I feel all warm, hot right now, but cold and refreshed. Realization has hit me, or at least I noticed it. To me, right now, the letter whispered me to move on. My teacher gave me words of inspiration. Friends, real people, expressed what I was looking for. To show sympathy for others, and to care. I've seen the true side of the indiviuals, I know they have a heart.
.................................................................
I have a friend who couldn't make it at all, disqualified. I wanted to tell her "no it's not over". And even if she had to lose her life in NYC, her friends, her loves, her needs, there's a reason for it. You have to lose a dream in order to learn how to understand and feel the feeling of relief and glory. There's a reason for everything, most likely for the better. You probably have an unopened door ahead. It's an unnoticeable light. The thing is, you have to reach for it and catch it.
Those equal signs in our lives are only the prespectives of our results."

Yes I have no life, deal with it. It's only an open-eye-er, words of encourage ment. I was sniffling when I wrote this (yes I was the one making that sound lol), and really emotional. Yes it's lame, but it's the best I can do. It upsets me when others are upset, I want to cheer you guys up. You aren't failures, you just tripped and fell. Sure you'll have a scar, but it'll heal, and soon you'll be going down new road. It's long an stupid but for now just get over that fact. (ps: I love this class)

(pps: if you ever want to post thing's like this, personal messages to the class, words of encouragement, e-mail me at rawritscmdx@gmail.com)
